Blast from the past: Carine Roitfeld [16 Jan 2013|06:32am]

yala_agni
That story is made also under Carine direction, but this time it is much more about character, personality and portrait story. Karen playing here temperamental Italian, tomboy, sweet girl, a funny one, a dramatic woman and arrogant wench. It was a time of glory for Karen Mulder, a star model from Netherlands with very commercial appearance and very traumatic past. She was a muse for legendary Yves Saint Laurent, as well as for Helmut Newton, and often guest on covers of top-notch publications and a true super-model, but that doesn`t help. She has numerous nervous breakdowns, suicide attempts and strange past (perhaps it is just her imagination as a result of her emotional unstability, but who knows) with rapes by her father and her agent at Elite Model. Drug addictions, depressions, rehabs - all this was at the beginning of zeroes, at the moment she is not working, sometimes you can observe her as a guest at different parties and in Olivier Zahm blog and that`s it. Concerning styling - it is the one of Carine cliche and very beloved theme of her in early 90`s - sport+chic, new designers combined with streetswear. Carine always supported newcomer talents, not yet famous on a big fashion scene. So here you can see pieces by Martine Sitbon (now working for Rue du Mail), Helmut Lang and Comme des garcons as a representative of fashion undergroung and avant-garde. It is tacky here, but Carine is not affraid to make mistakes and that`s the reason why i love her, because you will never know if you won`t try...

Blast from the past: Carine Roitfeld [16 Jan 2013|04:42am]

hi, guys! i was away for a while and there was so much thing going on. I was working hard and started collecting a new era of magazines for me - 70`s-80`s and finally started a serious collection of Helmut Newton whom i was inside since my childhood and whom actually modeled my view on women, aesthetic and sexuality in some way (his Wolford campaigns in 96-98 was the ones i admire back then, when i was in my pre-teen age). Now i am back and i just hope that i can share with you my thought, opinions, precious materials and exclusives more often, since i always have something to say, and my collection grown much much bigger.
Today i am gonna tell you about vintage Carine Roitfeld stuff. She is very infamous at the moment: that new Bazaar position, her magazine etc (however lately she dissapeared from the scen and last 2-3 months weren]t as fruitful as the whole passed year, but i guess it is just a lull before the storm), but back then, in 1994 she was just a regular stylist at French Conde Nast`s Vogue & Glamour. Her styling is always very determinated, recognizable, cutting edge and still very modern, even now, almost 20 years after. I guess, that`s because she didn`t follow the norms of good-taste, she just followed he instinct, that§s why she ussually combined white pumps with black outfit, put together accessories from whole different stories or just mix classic stuff with a super trendy fast -fashion elements, yes , sometimes it provokes the thing called in french "le mavais gout", but as maestro Helmut Newton said in his autobiography: "I am very attracted by bad taste - it is a lot more exciting than that supposed good taste which is nothing more than a standardized way of looking at things." Carine is not standardized, and she was always into something very particular and personal, and i guess that`s the reason of her success, not fast, but i guess, slow stars are true stars...
Below you `ll see a quite rare and fameless story, however, you `ll see Yasmeen Ghauri, a very on -demand model of 90`s with super feminine shapes whom stars in Organza of Givenchy, Male model is looking exactly as a young Duran-Duran`s keyboardist Nick Rhodes. The story is supposed to getting us back in 40`s, it is a new view on retro in 90s. So, get ready

Maybe the next thing deserve posting and thats all for now. Strange work for Walter taking to note his usual quirky stuff. Very soft and calm Casta dressed in white. For all fans of classical stuff. Im not fond of her too feninine beauty (coz i luv more avantgarde gouth and strength faces) but i like how she looks here. sometimes. sorry for the quality of shots but too soon usually doesn`t mean too good)...

Taken in Rio, i must say what this is the only worting editorial out of all new issue. Please Conde, fire Emmanuelle! All the issue is about girls dressed as bouys and we aren`t talking about this infamous chic YSL Newton image on Parisian streets. It`s some tomboys without any trace of elegance. Only that editorial save the situation at least on some point...

Again first time Carine works with that semi-artist (coz he is photographer considered as an artist, for me this is all a preudo-try, tbh, his infamous shot for W with Linda is just a copycat of older and lesser known shoots of different photographers) I have to say, i`m not impressed at all. BTW, CR is the one magazine novadays which doesn§t give credits to stylist/fashion editorias. I assume that`s because most of them were styled by m-lle Roitfeld, however, not all... I don§t think she woyuld style some fashion section not really a fashion-shoot.

I know it`s been a while since my last entry.. But i have tons of old magazines from 70-80 (and my collection grows very fast and free space in my room dessapearing) and i plan to share with you guys, however, maybe in another format than scans, coz it damages old heavy and thick magazines quite a lot.
Today i will share the latest issue (and the first actually) of CR Fashion Book, already infamous, but not that irreverent as everyone was highly anticipated. It is really one bid dissapointment especially considering the fact what all mags are very poor and weak novadays. However, that plays into the hands of Carine Roitfeld mag debuted 13th september in NYC. I have to say, what still most of points in NY still don`t have that issue...But that is a weird US magazine distribution chain, i don`t think i will ever grasp how it works.
Here is the first Carine expirience with Kacper Kasprzyk. They shot Catherine McNeil wearing wig and playing Elsa Peretti - a renown jewelry designer of her era (70s). She worked for Tiffany & Co a lot. I`m not really fond of her design, i appreciate much more Paloma Picasso collaboration feauturing Tiffany&Co. Elsa`s were too simple & soft for my taste. Paloma created very heavy, dangerous and massive jevellery pieces which she worn herself (bangles for instanse which everyone knows by her Newton`s topless portrait holding a glass of water). Anyway, considering that shoot, i don`t like that blurry shades on each shot, because i really miss Carine styling (remembering good old days when we can observe it each month 2 or 3 times in Vogue Paris, now it`s only ad campaign twice a year and some rare V magazine stuff) and here i can`t see a thing thanks to that woozy blurry effect. I adore 70`s but i can`t say i luv Elsa attitude or style, nor i love it here embodied in Cat McNeil...it looks too amateurish in a bad way.

Play for today: hermes [19 Jun 2012|01:00pm]

Hermes is known for their luxury leather goods, silk scarfs and for creative way to promoting collections. They got advertising campaign each season and seasonal catalog - Le monde d`hermes, where you can admire 3 or 4 photosessions by different (renown and newcomers) photographers. I am dissapointed what Jean Paul Gaultier outgo from a creative director`s work. I loved their leather bracelets and harnesses and leather collections were simply pure gorgeuosness under JPG. However, this collection was created undr his gouverment, he haven`t ever done scarf line. Here you can enjoy 16 ways how you can lut on your scarf. An advantageous skill.

Some indie stuff today in b/w. Clent is an independent menswear magazine, printed quarterly.  Here is the story taken by South African photographer Olivier Sutton. For me it seems more focused on charachters and portraits than on fashion and a bit reminds me of Boo George works. Especially the one about sailors in Love magazine.

Here `s the last i `m gonna post from a new issue of Vogue Japan. I`m not a fan: of these unstoppable studio shots provided by quartet Daniele + Iango, Natasha Poly and hair stylist Luigi Murenu for Vogue Japan. It`s everytime same old story. However some outfits are a bit nice.

Here is the secound editorial by Patrick from the same issue. Studio shot, very boring, though we can see here some strokes of crazy ADR styling. I suppose, that shooting is the continue of Christian Dior haute Couture/ Patcrick Demarchelier project (you should remember the Rizolli book came out in october 2011) that could hardly being out-takes from this book (since couture shows showcased in Paris this february), but i think that`s just a sequel of this collaboration realized in very dull manner by Vogue Japan.

If my memory serves me good, this is first time for Demarchelier in Nippon Vogue as wel as for Lori. I`m not a fan, but i like that Saskia here plays not her typical role-strange/ androginy/ avangardian/ mature sexy woman role. She`s tanned, with bleached hair kinda avant-gardian barbie-girl. But i don`t really like the fact what on most of the pics we can`t observe her face (it`s hiding behing hard shadows or sunglaces/hands/hair). And i dun like these blue /white lips, this is sick. However i luv that Nippon Vogue loves her.

I love secound cover better, tbh. because this is 80`s and because of Lara showcasing her huge breast. but i was hoping for more... So the editorial (except cover) is dissapointing, Though i still adore this 80`s  hard make-up with way too much accented cheekbones

Tipically 80`s styled editorials. It`s been a while (and i can`t even recall when last time) Glen was working for Vogue Paris. And it`s a pleasure twicely what VP is putting Kristina in it.

It`s been a while since Carine collaboration with Mondion last time, actually, like 20 years. Lately it was for ELLE France, as far as i know it was in 1988. Here we see infamous spanish bullfighter dressed almost everytime in Givenchy, i simply adore earrings (they`re Givenchy as well) and i would even pierce my ears for those. And hard orthopedic thing is dreamy too. But you can easily purshase it in the next-door drugstore (nude colored are nice too). Jose Maria in real life looks much yonger, but here thanks to tensed emotions and breaded face he is lookin` way too older.

Portraits of personalities by Weber. Roitfeld styling isn`t very recognizable. i hink that`s because Carine haven`t worked with men`s fashion longtime yet. However, her theme with orthopedic/medical devices is revealed.
